Back in that time BlackBerry was one of the most reputed and popular phone manufacturing company. But in recent years blackberry is standing on the edge.
BlackBerry’s Priv is supposed to save the company. But still this save from blackberry is pretty late now, but it’s exactly what BlackBerry needed to get back in the market. BlackBerry Priv is the first Android-powered BlackBerry.
Under the hood Priv packs a a 5.4-inch 2560 x 1440 curved AMOLED display, a slide-out keyboard, a big 3,410 mAh battery, a Snapdragon 808 paired with 3GB of RAM for the performance and 32GB of storage which can be expanded by SD card.
The main feature that every blackberry has is a keyboard so lets talk about that, The Keyboard on Priv is styled like old BlackBerry fashion. The sliding keyboard makes this guy heaver and little bit fat. The software is also optimized for the keyboard, you can long-press keys to quick-launch shortcuts or start typing to trigger a search. The Keyboard is touch-sensitive which enables it to scroll with it and swipe down on it to bring up an optional symbols keyboard.
Blackberry placed the speakers along the bottom of the phone. We wished Blackberry should have placed the speakers in the front. The current speakers gets pretty loud. The button placement is not at its best, you have a mute button in between the volume buttons. Also power button is on one side far away from the volume keys.
There have been times where our Priv had heat issues and also we have faced many bugs in performance. While using the there were fair amounts times where the phone got freeze and many bugs affected apps. we were also experiencing a problems in calls quality, also the device was not able to maintain signals. As the device packs a Snapdragon 808 processor it can handle most tasks and gaming just fine.
Blackberry Priv has a a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 18-megapixel rear-facing shooter with Optical Image Stabilization and a dual-LED flash. The camera that you get in priv is one of the best camera ever put in a BlackBerry phone. The camera can take amazing pictures in low light and also the image quality was just fine.
There is a big down side in the camera of priv, The camera is very slow ! The device takes about 5-6 seconds to save a photo in HDR mode on. In normal mode device takes 2-3 seconds which is typically very slow as compared to the other phones out there.
As this is the first Android phone from Blackberry, The device rocks Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and thats it, Blackberry priv will not get Marshmallow update anytime soon. There are hopes that device will its marshmallow update in anytime in 2016.
The software you get is the mixture of neat blackberry features mixed with on the top of Lollipop. To bring up Google Now you can hold the circle menu button or the home button.
Blackberry Hub doesn’t require any explanation, it encompassing space for most notifications, such as email and calendar alerts, Facebook and Twitter notifications and more – All notification in one place. You will face a time where you will receive duplicate notifications for Gmail and other apps.
BlackBerry built a home screen that lets you swipe up on any icon to show a relevant widget, and you can also swipe up from the home button to get to one of three customizable shortcuts instead of just one. The software also takes advantage of the curved display. A swipe from the side of the screen, where there’s a small customizable bar, will show you a peak at the calendar, BlackBerry Hub, a To-Do list or your favorite contacts.
“Priv” Stands For “Privacy”
One of the strong point where you will love blackberry priv is the security area. The user-facing aspect of it is a piece of software called DTEK security, which monitors your phone for nefarious acts and also gives you a handy security audit that lets you know what’s going on inside each one. BlackBerry says it bolstered the Android kernel with additional security features like “Hardware Root of Trust,” which the company describes “a hardware-based root of trust is established during processor manufacturing by injecting cryptographic material that’s later used for device authentication and secure boot.”
